Chic for Cheap: Shiny Healthy Hair Without the Fuss and Expense

Here are Some Basic Tips to Having Healthy, Shiny Hair:

  1. Blow dry your hair with cold air for as much of your styling process as possible.
  2. Shower in luke warm to cold water- it's better for your skin too!
  3. Shampoo every other shower. Condition every shower.
  4. Deep condition your hair once a week.
  5. Oil Your Hair Once a Week. You can pick up a bottle that will last you anywhere from three to six months at any Indian grocery store. It will usually be made with coconut and almond oil. To get even better results, leave the oil in for at least two hours and blow dry your hair, while oiled, with hot air.
  6. Be sure to eat a decent amount of protein. Things like nuts, beans, eggs, and yogurt are great for your hair and great for you in general! Also, eat a colorful, balanced diet with plenty of fruits and veggies and H2O!
  7. Have a "no-style" day once a week and leave your hair be. No straightening, no blow drying, no product!
  8. Avoid brushing your hair while it's wet. Always use a wide-toothed comb.
  9. Pick up a "Shine Spray" from any beauty store, like Sally's Beauty Store and spritz your hair a few times with it after a shower. When done styling, spray some into your hand and apply evenly. It'll give you a nice shine and condition your hair throughout the day.
  10. Get some sun and some exercise! A healthy body means healthy hair.
  11. If you have to dye your hair, use semi-permanent dye if possible. It's a lot less damaging. Avoid frequent color changes.
